Stags Leap, Stag's Leap or Stags' Leap can refer to Stags' Leap Winery is a winery located near Yountville, California, in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. The winery's 240 acres (97 ha) estate vineyard was first planted in 1893. In 1976 at the Judgment of Paris wine tasting, the 1973 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet from the area that would become this AVA won first place in the red wine category, beating out classified Bordeaux estates. As she writes within the notable “Stag’s Leap,” “When a person escapes, my middle / leaps up. Even while it’s I who am escaped from, / i'm part at the part of the leaver.” The Leap was created to celebrate this unique vineyard block, and to offer a wine that speaks to the impressive terroir of the Stags Leap District.
